Overview of CTET: Central Teacher Eligibility Test
CTET stands for Central Teacher Eligibility Test, which is a national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India. The CTET exam is conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of candidates for the position of teachers in primary (Classes I-V) and upper primary (Classes VI-VIII) schools.
The CTET exam consists of two papers – Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is for candidates who wish to teach classes I-V, while Paper II is for candidates who wish to teach classes VI-VIII. Candidates who want to teach classes I-VIII have to appear for both papers. The exam is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based) and consists of multiple-choice questions.
To be eligible for the CTET exam, candidates must have a minimum qualification of a Senior Secondary or its equivalent, along with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education degree. Candidates who have completed a two-year Diploma in Education or a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline are also eligible to apply.
CTET is an important exam for candidates who want to pursue a career in teaching and is recognized by all schools under the purview of the Central Government. Qualifying the CTET exam is mandatory for candidates who want to apply for teaching jobs in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and other central schools.

Exam Pattern
The CTET exam pattern consists of two papers:

Both papers consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and are conducted for a duration of 2.5 hours. The exam pattern for each paper is as follows:

- Subjects: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies
- Each subject carries 30 marks
Paper II:

- Total marks: 150
- Subjects: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teachers) or Social Science/Social Studies (for Social Science/Social Studies teachers)
- Each subject carries 30 marks
Note: Candidates who want to teach classes I to VIII need to appear for both Paper I and Paper II.
Eligibility Criteria for CTET
The eligibility criteria for CTET exam are as follows:

For Primary Stage (Classes I-V):
- Candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) OR
- Candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002 OR
- Candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR
- Candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)* OR
- Candidates should have a Graduation degree and passed or appearing in the final year of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

For Elementary Stage (Classes VI-VIII):
- Candidates should have a Graduation degree and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known) OR
- Candidates should have a Graduation degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) OR
- Candidates should have a Graduation degree with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard OR
- Candidates should have a Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) OR
- Candidates should have a Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed OR
- Candidates should have a Graduation degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.
Note: Relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for eligibility shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to reserved categories, such as SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled.

The eligibility criteria for both papers are the same, but the subject areas and difficulty level of the questions are different.
